What are syllable ?

What are syllable ? give some examples .

answer - A syllable is a unit of organization for a sequence of speech sounds.
For example - 1) - The word WATER has 2 syllables WA and TER 
2) - The word GRASSHOPPER has 3 syllables GRASS , HOPE and ER
The syllables can also be written like WA/TER , GRASS/HOPE/ER
